Retired Judges Allyson Duncan (4th Cir.) and Paul W. Grimm (D. Md.) joined Judge J. Michelle Childs (D.C. Cir.) for a luncheon discussion at the 2026 ALI Annual Meeting.
Moderated by Judge Duncan, the conversation examines the importance of judicial independence, public confidence in the courts, and the rule of law. Drawing on their experiences on the bench, the panelists reflected on the responsibilities of judges, the growing challenges facing the judiciary, and the need for greater civic understanding of the judicial system.
